Equipment

  • Meat Tenderizer
  • Baking sheet
  • Oven
  • Frying pan or skillet
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Spatula or Tongs

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs filet mignon, tenderized to 1/3 of an inch
  • 2 take and bake French bread loaves
  • Lysanders meat rub
  • Olive oil
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 beefsteak tomato
  • Pixie sticks, potato chips

Instructions

  • Season the tenderized filet mignon with Lysander meat and rub evenly on both sides.
  • Let the meat sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Drizzle olive oil on the take-and-bake bread. Cut a slit in the middle of each loaf to allow the dough to breathe.
  • Bake the bread in the oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • While the bread is baking, heat a pan with olive oil over medium heat.
  • Slice the onion into long strands and sauté in the pan until they become translucent and slightly caramelized.
  • Add the seasoned steak to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side or until browned to your preference.
  • Remove the steak from the pan and let it cool slightly before slicing.
  • Take the bread out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice each loaf in half lengthwise.
  • Assemble the sandwich by layering the sliced steak, tomato slices, and sautéed onions on the bread.
  • Top the sandwich with a generous amount of Pixie Sticks potato chips for added crunch.

Notes

  • Meat Thickness:Ensure the filet mignon is evenly tenderized to about 1/3 of an inch. This thickness allows for quick cooking while retaining tenderness.
  • Seasoning:Feel free to adjust the amount of Lysanders meat rub according to taste. You can also add additional spices like garlic powder or cumin for extra flavor.
  • Bread Crispiness: If you prefer a crunchier exterior, consider baking the bread a few minutes longer. Just be careful not to burn it.
  • Onion Cooking:For a sweeter flavor, caramelize the onions longer over low heat. This adds a nice contrast to the savory steak.
  • Pixie Sticks Potato Chips: These add a unique and playful crunch to the sandwich. If unavailable, substitute with regular thinly sliced potato chips or leave them out for a more traditional texture.
