- 2 kg ripe guavas
- 1/2 kg white sugar
- Water
Begin by peeling the guavas. Slice each guava in half and remove all the pulp and seeds with a teaspoon, trying to keep the fruit's mass as intact as possible.
Place the guava shells in a medium or large pot and add enough water to cover the guavas by about two fingers' height.
Cook over high heat until it begins to boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and discard the water.
Return the guava shells to the pot and add half the sugar. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
After 10 minutes, add the remaining sugar and continue cooking, stirring continuously until the sugar is completely melted and the guava shells are soft.
Remove from heat and allow the guava shells to cool to room temperature before refrigerating.
- Guava Ripeness: Use ripe guavas for the best flavor and texture. Overripe guavas may turn too soft during cooking.
- Sugar Adjustment: You can adjust the amount of sugar based on your preferred sweetness level.
- Water Level: Ensure that the water level is just right, covering the guavas by two fingers' height for even cooking.
- Cooking Time: Monitor the guavas during cooking to achieve the desired softness without overcooking.
- Serving Cold: For the best flavor, let the guava shells cool to room temperature and chill in the fridge before serving.
